It is a short river, with an incredible gradient of around 70 feet per mile in the main canyon. Its source is Navajo Lake on Cedar Mountain. You hike miles in blazing sun to find a tiny rocky stream with occasional deep pools. And yet there they are, likely washed in from outside the park. Invasive? Yep. Beautiful? Absolutely. We hiked from a trailhead that doesn’t get used much and didn’t see a soul, simply rambling along the creek past beautiful green pools and cascades in perfect weather.
